The countdown to the big day is officially on, bringing with it a wave of festivity as offices up and down the country decorate their workspaces.

But with one workplace making headlines for decorations dubbed as ‘the most depressing ever’, how can you ensure your office efforts look the part?

The good news is, office Christmas decorations don’t have to blow the budget or take heaps of time to put up.

Here Blok Projects share a few simple, fast, and fun office Christmas decoration ideas to help spread a little festive cheer.   

·      Keep it classic

Sometimes the simplest options are the best.

A traditional office Christmas tree is the perfect way to add festive charm and cheer to any office. Whilst nothing beats the smell of real fir, fluctuating office temperatures can wreak havoc – nothing looks sadder than a drooping Christmas tree, and that’s before you start on the issue of dropped pine needles! 

Keep things simple and opt for an artificial tree instead. This may be a little more costly initially, but will soon prove to be cost-effective as it’s re-used year-on-year.

For maximum efficiency, why not go for a pre-lit option and save the time and trouble of tackling the task of adding fairy lights?

·      Christmas windows

Removable art decals are a great way to decorate office space – and can be used to grab attention from passersby, too.

Think snow scenes, stars, baubles – there are hundreds of ways you can get creative. It’s also a clever way to display your company logo or name, or to wish customers a happy Christmas.

Even better, this idea doesn’t have to be restricted to external windows. Think there’s no way to make the boardroom look festive? Think again. It also works a treat for internal office windows, glass partitions or doorways.

·      Quick cheats

Looking for a quick fix to boost the festive feel-good?

How about Santa hats? Simply hook them over the backs of chairs to bring a more festive feel to your office space. 

Or what about buying a box of Christmas crackers? Display them around the office, stack them on windowsills or use them as office desk decorations placed under computer screens for some seasonal cheer. Even better, before everyone heads home for the Christmas break, they can be pulled and enjoyed by the team.

And who can forget the Christmas classic – tinsel?! Trail around computer screens, desk partitions, windows and doorways for instant Xmas bling.  

·      Space savers

The key is to think cosy rather than cluttered and look for office Christmas decorations that won’t impede on space – especially if you don’t have much room to play with.

An effective way to do this is to get creative with the ceiling. And no, we’re not talking mistletoe!

An impressive way to decorate is by dangling baubles, ribbons or ornaments from the ceiling. If you have ceiling tiles, this is super easy, but if your ceiling is solid, simply opt for light paper decorations (snowflakes work really well for this) and use a little tape or tack to stick them into place. For a more striking effect, vary the length of your strings.

·      Fairy lights

An all-time favourite for adding festive charm, twinkling fairy lights are cheap, easy and guaranteed to add festive sparkle.

Just be mindful of wires, ensure everything is PAT tested and nominate someone to make sure they are turned off at the end of each day to prevent a fire hazard.

·      Get personal

Is your office public-facing? Christmas decs don’t have to dilute your brand identity – quite the opposite. Done well, they can be a positive way to reinforce it.

Gone are the days of limited choice and traditional festive shades – now Christmas decs come in every colour of the rainbow. Purple baubles? You’ve got it. Pink tinsel? No problem. Use your Christmas decorations as a fun way to stay on-brand.

Make your office a year-round dynamic space  

Can no amount of fairy lights and tinsel hide the fact your office needs an update? Will 2025 look bleak without an overhaul?

With a study in The Independent finding that  44% of adults believe they suffer from the January blues – and 52% revealing that during those first few days post-Christmas, they would be at work in body, but not in mind – the importance of making office space inviting all year round should never be underestimated.
